will an NP435 handle THIS?
Looking into engines for my project 1968 Mustang street rod. I have reawlly been looking at a 445 FE stroker developing 500ft lbs of torque and 475hp. I am also looking into a simple build for the 360 in my 69 F100. I was curious if the truck could house the 445 while im building the stang and the 360. I just dont want to turn my drivetrain into mush. I know they make clutches designed for the power output into a top loader, but i dont kow about the NP435.

Yup.. it'll handle it. NO side stepping the clutch no matter how tempted you are.
I'd be more worried about u-joints, center support bearing, drive shafts and your 28 spline 9" rear axle (if so equipped) than your NP435.

well I dont intend to rag the truck. Im a lot more inclined to drive it easy in the truck than in the mustang. Giving me a good break in period before it goes into the car. Ill go ahead with a new clutch, may as well.
Not sure what I will do with the 360 yet, probably stock cam, minor head work, Holly 4bbl, full headers, maybe higher compression pistons.

It will handle that easily. Don't shift it like a car transmission, 'cause it isn't one.

Im sure a freshly built engine will need some easy mile break in time. Just thought I would break it in while the 360 was getting refreshed. Two birds with one stone.

Doing that will mean that all of this:1969FordMan wrote:Not sure what I will do with the 360 yet, probably stock cam
Will be a waste of money. You might get a couple horsepower more, but the stock cam in the 360 is made for low end torque. Using the same cam again, you wont really be able to utilize any of those power adders at all, and you will likely be very disappointed.1969FordMan wrote: minor head work, Holly 4bbl, full headers, maybe higher compression pistons.

I am going to talk to Survival motorsports and see what they recommend. I guess I can upgrade the cam to something that develops more power but still retains drivability.
