The "Baby" C6 is better/stronger and more of a "truck" application, in my opinion, than the C4 or AOD transmissions. Windsor motors and 240/300 I6's share bell housing bolt patterns, so that's the application to look for.

I agree and looked at all three of the possibilities today...86, 89 and 91 C6's. The 86 came out of a van, 89 came out of an F150 and the 91 came out of an F150 and was behind a 300 I-6. All three look like the C6 in my truck now, same length, tranny cooler lines in same place, shifter and kick-down in same place and speedo gear in same place. I can get any of them for $200 with 90-day warranty. Couldn't check the fluid as they had all been drained before they were shelved at the pick-n-pull yards.
Anyone know if Ford substantially changed the C6 and when?
The 69-70 300 I-6 I was lookin at to replace my tired old 360 failed its warm/dry comp test today...so I'm in the market again. If you know of a good 'un near West Texas, let me know...ideally a good 300 with good C6 already attached.

As far as I know (which is limited) the C6 wasn't changed substantially during it's various applications over the years. Main differences are bell housing patterns for FE, Windsor (same as 240/300 I6) 335 and 385 series (some, not ALL, 335 & 385 bell housings are the same). I used my C6 that was behind my 351M for my 460 conversion in my '78 F150.

I just realized that you're also looking at a 300 I6. My suggestion is to get a motor and C6 trans as a package deal if at all possible.

The reasoning behind this is you'll also get things like throttle linkage, kick down linkage, trans cooler lines etc. That's the stuff that will wear you and your wallet out as you hunt it down. As I understand it, you're converting a Bump with an FE / C6 to an I6 / C6.
