Allright just got the bump on the road. It is a 69 ford f100 with a 390 . Truck runs great. Now my problem is my overdirve does not fully engage. The electrical seems to be working I followed the tutorial to get the electrics to work as outlined in the technical section here. When I have the truck set for overdrive it makes a noise like it is trying to engage but does not fully go into overdrive. Kinda of like a light grinding noise, another thing I notice is that it will not shift into reverse when the overdrive cable is pushed in. When I pull the cable out to disengage the overdrive unit it shifts fine and is quite foward and reverse. So my question here on the board what should I look at to resolve the problem or what might it be. If it requires getting parts my next quesion is where should I look?
Thanks everyone
Dom

Re: Borg Warner overdrive problems
to put it in reverse. you dont want overdrive engauged. so that sounds normal.

Re: Borg Warner overdrive problems
A T-85 will shift into reverse with the cable either in or out.
Overdrive is locked out when you are in reverse.
Sounds like your internal lock out mechanism is not working.
The governor should shift the transmission out of overdrive
at speeds of less than about 25 mph. The cable control is only
one of the ways overdrive is locked out.

sounds like I am going to have to take this bad boy apart. Now my next question who sources parts for this overdrive unit or am going to have to find used parts or a donar unit?borderlinehero wrote:A T-85 will shift into reverse with the cable either in or out.
