Axle ID please?

Post by northerndave »

Guys, this is a photo of a front hub on a 1970 F250 I'm thinking about buying. I have one of these trucks already but thus hub looks way different than the hubs on my F250.

Mine are tapered, these look bigger and have no taper.

Can anybody give me some input on this?

Is the punkin noticably bigger than yours? If it's a dana, you should be able to find the model cast into the center case, on the back side I believe.

I haven't seen the truck in person yet so I haven't been able to look under the truck. I just noticed right away that these hubs look bigger than the ones on my 1970 F250. Mine are tapered, they get smaller out on the lockout end.

Likely the heavier 44 front. Could be a closed knuckle 60 if it's a forrestry or military truck, but most likely just a 44.

Much better than the light duty closed knuckle 44, but not great compared to any of the disc brake axles.

The biggest advantage to a truck with that axle is they have overload springs in the rear and a heavier front pack too.
