Well i'm stumped....
I took out my instrument cluster because i was getting a new lens and bezel. I Go to put it back in, and the speedo cable won't reach now.. It's like 2 or 3 cm short, It was threaded on when i took it off. I've gave it a good tug and no luck.
what am i doing wrong?

Wiggle the cable around.
It's a square drive, and you have to mate the core to the speedometer.
It should go in if you do this.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

You may have to turn the core to get it to mate to the drive gear in the tranny.
Both ends are square, and you may have pulled it out of the tranny gear when you pulled the cluster.
It's probably also a good idea to lube the cable/core while you have the cluster out.
