Dana 60 Spider gear swap
Just curious...Is it possible to take a EARLY D60 powerlock and swap the spider gears and side gears to the LATER spline count gears?? The reason I ask is I have the original 3.73 D60 posi from my 69 (just the carrier and ring and pinion) but I now have a 77 D60 axle assy in the truck. I also have a brand new posi front carrier and ring and pinion for the front also. If I decide to drop from 37's to 35's I may want to swap gears and do away with the one wheel peel too. Just wondering if it can be done without buying a new rear carrier assy?? Thanks, Steve

You can go from 16 to 30 spline by just changing the side gears, but 35 spline side gears need a few more parts besides just the side gears.
It sounds like you know what you're talking about, but just to be clear, the side gears have to be from a powerlock. Also, before spending bucks on new side gears pull the carrier bearings off the powerlocking making sure the ring gear side bearing isn't spun on the carrier. Most are pretty loose.

I was hoping to hear from you on this subject. You seem to be one of the most experienced guys on here and I figured you would know the scoop!! Thanks for the info and the tip on the spun bearing also. Any Idea where to get the gears?? Six states in PDX? Randy's ring and pinion maybe?? Thanks again, Steve
