Driveshaft and ignition switch question
1967F100
I'm getting a automatic C6 trany out of a 70's van. I was wondering if the driveshaft out of the van will work on my when converting from column to automatic?
Also when did vans go from ignition switch on dash to on the column?

Re: Driveshaft and ignition switch question
the driveshaft might fit. you will have to check the driveshaft lenght. the ignition switch may not fit your plug on your wiring harness. my guess is they went to column in 80 and up. i am just guessing though.

Re: Driveshaft and ignition switch question
the vans steering box and steering linkage is in front of the crossmember.it wotn interchange with our trucks. the steerign column might. if you change the firewall seal to a truck firewall seal. other than arm rests that is almost all that can be used from a van. major parts anyway.

Can you still get a replacement truck firewall seal? What about the 67-69 truck steering wheel fitting the van column?

Re: Driveshaft and ignition switch question
the column is the same size around as ours is. unless you get up into the 78/79columns thne they get larger around i think. yes they do sell column seal replacements.

Van columns are much longer than truck columns. 1980 is the year they went to locking columns. Hawkrod

Almost 7 inches longer, it is not doable as a bolt in. Hawkrod

Re: Driveshaft and ignition switch question
I had to shorten the van column quite a bit to fit into my bump. I don't remember exactly how much though.Hawkrod wrote:Van columns are much longer than truck columns. 1980 is the year they went to locking columns. Hawkrod
