Ok, I've got a question. I've got a '69 ranger that had a 360, c-6 combp. I pulled the engine and trans and swapped in a 351w with a c-6 out of a 86 f 100. The front of the driveshaft has a flange to bolt up to the original trans. The new trans has a yolk. I was told that I can put the yoke on my driveshaft and get rid of the flange, ok, but what about the back of thefront driveshaft? Its splined to meet up to the back driveshaft, so the front driveshaft will be splined on both ends. That won't work will it.
How hard is it to change the tailshaft, so I could put the flange on the 86 trans?

Just swap out the trans tailshaft and extension housing. The slip yoke trans is longer and would require shortening the driveshaft. Swap the tailshafts and use the same driveshaft.

This is the route that I went as well, but do note that you have to do significant disassembly to get the tailshaft out of the slip-yoke tranny as there is a c-clip down inside of there holding the tailshaft in.BobbyFord wrote:Just swap out the trans tailshaft and extension housing. Note: The C clip is only used on the long, slip-type shaft and is not used on the short, bolt-on shaft. The short shaft with bolt-on yoke is held in by the extension housing.

I'm thinking about a similar swap in my 1968 F250 but I want to use a Tremic 5speed.Not sure if I should go to a one piece driveshaft or if there's a way to eliminate the slip shaft on the steady bearing(short driveshaft )
