SPECIAL ORDER REAR END
I am looking at an eBay add for a 69 F100 w/overdrive. He says it has, "SPECIAL ORDER REAREND" with a 390 and 3-speed. I have sent the seller a question asking about the "SPECIAL ORDER REAREND". Are any of you familiar with this? I am under the impression that only huge trucks like F600 and up have a two-speed read end and that it probably isn't feasible to install one in my F250.
I am assuming that the overdrive is the "special rear end", but it's possible that they are two separate items.

Thanks for any input on this guys.

Re: SPECIAL ORDER REAR END
3spd with over drive means its a T89 overdrive transmission. he is probably refferring to the whoel truck was a special order truck and got a different rearend than was suppose to be used in that truck. i saw nothing that said 2 speed rear end in it.
Re: SPECIAL ORDER REAR END
fordman, you are probably correct. There is a much greater chance the overdrive is a part of the tranny and not a part of the rear end. I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part. I'll post the sellers response if I get one.

Re: SPECIAL ORDER REAR END
If by chance it is on the rear end, it will be Hone-O-Drive. That is a very rare overdrive that could be bought, and bolts directly to a 9" rear end. A 8" rear end model was available also, and a divorced unit to. The models for those were 100 for an 8", 200 for a 9" rear, and 300 for the unit that is divorced that bolts in the tunnel of what ever car they are going on. A popular choice for RVer's as well as Hot Roders. Kind of pricey they are.
Re: SPECIAL ORDER REAR END
Based on your description, the Hone-O-Drive won't fit a Dana 60. Not giving up my floating axle. Sounds good for a 1/2 ton truck though.

Re: SPECIAL ORDER REAR END
It sure sounds like his description calls for a special rear axle. Of course he doesn't show any pictures of it or go to further explain what overdrive it has.

Re: SPECIAL ORDER REAR END
limited slip that would explain why he says that. did someone say the d60 only came in 3.73 and 4.11 unless it was limited slip?
Re: SPECIAL ORDER REAR END
The seller sent me an answer to my question about the rear-end.
Not the two-speed I was hoping for, but definitely a plus for who ever buys the truck."IT HAS A DANA 60 LIMITED SLIP 3.54 GEAR RATIO REAREND"
