New guy from TX
Hello all,
So I'm new to the whole BUMP scene. I never thought of owning a bump, of a FORD that matter until recently. I have always owed foreign. It took me awhile to even figure out what the heck a bump is. figured it was like referring to your car as a "ride" or "wheels. Sorry I'm a little slow. I'm planning on buying a new bump as soon as the new year starts. I have been reading lots on here and have been gathering a tremendous amount of knowledge. For that Thank You ALL! The truck I'm planning on purchasing was labeled a 1968 F-100 Camper Special. I have come to understand this is not the case. I believe it to be an F-250. Not sure about the Camper Special though. It has a DANA 60 rear, I believe this to be true since it has the 8 lug bolt pattern. 390, with an automatic. It has the tool box on the bed. Also has 2 fuel tanks. 2 tone paint. There are no badges on this bump except for the custom cab emblems, not even holes where an emblem would be. I have not been able to get the VIN since the folks are out of town until the 1st. Should I be correct to assume this to be an F-250? Well, thank you all again for the wealth of knowledge in here. One last thing, is there anything I should be looking for on this that I should shy away from or that would let me know this is the truck to have? It's in pretty good shape. Not to much rust. Not too many dents. If I was just looking for a great looking truck I would have bought this bump a long time ago. Any info would be appreciated.
Davin.

ta TACO, First of all...
Yup... it sounds like you've got yourself an F250 C/S (Camper Special). You'll get used to a lot of the abbreviations used here. Took me a while too.
When you get a chance, we'd ALL love to see some pictures of the Bump you're about to acquire. Good luck and again... WELCOME from Phelan, SoCal.

Welcome from So Cal.
You just described my F250 Camper Special. When you get a chance to see the truck again, look on the drivers door for the ID Tag. The tag will have the VIN as well as the GVWR and other useful info.
Compare the GVWR to my mine: 7500 pounds. (1969 F250 C/S)
The base model F250 is 6900 pounds. (my 1970 F250)
Also, the Camper Special has a set of overload springs not found on the other models. The rear leaf springs will have an extra leaf, offset a bit so it doesn't get used until you've got a heavy load. Check and see if it still has the front sway-bar only found on the C/S. All F250's have a Dana 60. (I think)

Welcome from Colorado! I too am somewhat new to the whole "bump" thing but loving it. This website has been invaluable to my restoration of my 72 F250 Camper Special. I'd love to see some pics of your truck when you get the chance!

Re: New guy from TX
Thank you all! Since I started studying, I have not been able to get a chance to get the key and write everything down so I can reference the info
. Maybe I can get some pics tomorrow. We'll see. I did notice the rear shackles where different than anything I have seen before. Almost like they have double pivot points. Thanks again everyone.

Re: New guy from TX
The double pivot shackle is a Ford thing. Not sure if it was used on all Ford trucks or not. Both my F250's have it. A 69 C/S and a 70 base model.

Re: New guy from TX
That "Weird" rear shackle is an Exclusive feature on Superior Ford Trucks from the Bump era. They are referred to as Flex-O-Matic springs and work on a progressive basis.
As you increase the load in your Truck, the shackle contacts the main spring, shortening the spring's length, which increases it's load carrying capabilities.
Gee, do ya think I LOVE Ford Trucks? Bumps in particular? Yeah, I guess it's obvious.

Re: New guy from TX
I'm in Manor. Just East of Austin. So I went and got some pics. I also called the guy about getting the Vin and other info. He did not know since he was out of town. He told me he would back on the 2nd. So I'll get the goods then. I can't figure out how to post pics. Stand by. OK, got it.
