what kind of options do i have for locking the rear diff on my 67? has anyone used a ford EZ locker from Detroit Lockers?

Are you talking posi or completely locked? May I ask why you want to lock it unless it's an all out race truck?
Driving a locked rearend vehicle on the street is.... interesting. Worst part is either knowing you are destroying your tires or the fear you are going to snap an axle.

I'd go posi.

limited street use, more two wheel off- road, hunting,fishing,dump-runs etc. don't want to have one-tire-on-fire syndrome

I'd definitely go posi. I've ran open diffs, a posi diff and a locked diff in bumps. Open is fine for street but starts to suck offroad... locked sucks for street, wears tires, and breaks axles... posi is amazing.
For hunting, fishing and dump runs I can see a posi being plenty.

That fact that you'll be doing dump runs scares me even more about having a locked rearend because it only improves chances of snapping an axle because you'll have a lot of extra weight on the rear end.

:yt:, I say go Posi as well, it will give you both tires spinning when you really need it and keep you from worrying about grenading axles, and wearing tires quicker than you can buy them when they start chirping on the turns :wink:.

I had a mini spool in my "hotrod" f100. The heavyest thing i ever hauled was a set of 39.5 iroc's on wheels. I wouldnt spool/mini spool/full lock a 9'' if your putting serious weight over the rear end. axel snappage WILL occur.

Id go posi.

so what type of posi should i look for? any specific types you've used that you prefer? it won't see much weight on garbage day but i don't like the idea of snapping anything :lol:

I have a factory trac-loc that works well. When it comes time for a rebuild I will probably replace it with a Detroit Locker.

I have a dodge limited slip in my dana 60 rear it works ok,but if I need to change ratios to suit the cummins/M5R2
I plan on an electric locker in front and a detroit locker in the rear.many moons ago I owned a '69 mach one with a detroit locker and loved it.

I just installed a Detroit TrueTrac but haven't gotten the carrier back in the rear-end yet. It was my first rear-end build, but the Ford 9" makes it very easy to set up (preload, backlash, pinion depth). I bought a bearing kit to go with it, and it came with all the bearings, seals, bolts for the ring gear, marking compound, even some red loctite. Kind of pricey for the whole shebang, but I figured it was less than having a shop do it for me even if using lesser components and it will all be worth it when driving this thing on anything uneven/slippery.

definatly needs more traction...just about got stuck in 8inches of snow in my yard :lol: better rubber will help too.
