First, Tranny Pan. When I got my 68 it always leaked around the tranny pan (c6). I had a kid look at it and he said the pan was warped so I bought a new pan, gasket, and filter. The pan is supposed to be a heavy duty pan, don't remember where I got it. Have to go back and look, it's been awhile. Anyway the gasket that came with it was cork and I used silicon on it when I changed things out. I was careful not to over tighten in fear of crushing the gasket. Well, the thing continued to leak and I noticed some of the pans on the bolt had worked themselves pretty lose so I tightned them back up. It continues to lead, so I got pissed today and really tightened them up. Put more tranny fluid in and appear to still be leaking. Any advice here? Use something else for sealant besides silicone? Get a neopreme gasket instead of cork? Do I need to get a damn torque wrench to tighten these things up properly??
Oil pan drain plug leaking. Is there only one drain plug in the oil pan (390) because where this thing is located, it's going to make a hell of a mess when I drain the oil in regards to where the frame is. Also, the first guy to change the oil for me said the pan threads are some what stripped so I'm leaking oil there. Can that pan be rethreaded??? Thanks in advance everyone.

Re: Two Things
when tigthening a transpan or vavle covers yo uare only suppose to torque them to a certain torque. it isnt that you can crush the gasket. it is that yo ucan indent the pan holes where the bolts go through at. and there for if the holes are dented upwards towards the transmission the pan will leak becasue the pan is warped i guess you could say. you can lay the pan on a hard flat surface and tap the bolt hole flat with the ret of the pan. and then put a new gasket back on. silicone must be appl;ied to a grease oil and residue free surface or it wont seal up.
the oil pan plug i think can have a repair plug put in it i think.

Check & make sure the trans fluid is not coming from the front transmission seal or oil coming from the back crank seal & running down and blowing back on the trans pan.
You can get an SELF TAPPING OVER SIZE OIL DRAIN PLUG at NAPA, ADVANCE AUTO PARTS or most auto part stores.
just remove your drain plug and make sure you start the over size drain plug STRAIGHT.
Good luck.

Re: Two Things
I had the same issue on my 360 before I stuffed my "little 302" in the truck. It was basically impossible to get the plug restarted. I opted for a 4 X 4 pan with a rear sump to get rid of the issue. I'd read here there were different pans for the FE engine, (car or truck pans)? Is there only one drain plug in the oil pan (390) because where this thing is located, it's going to make a hell of a mess when I drain the oil in regards to where the frame is.
Maybe someone else with a little more knowledge can pipe in about the pan differences?
I didn't know there were "repair plugs" mentioned above, good stuff.
