Trans to replace T18 on 240/300

Post by 72f100shorty »

1972 F100 Short bed - 240/300 - T18

My T18 that needs a rebuild. I'll never need the granny gears and in fact prefer a more freeway flier so I hoped to find a 4 or even 5 speed stick trans that would bolt up to my 240/300. I just got this truck and have no clue if it is really a 300 or just a 240. It's ID says 240 but it's a bit of a junkyard dog as some other things have been changed out and added.

What if any year and style trans would bolt right up?

IF there are no real replacements where can I find the best rebuilt T18 online?

I figure if I'm spending the money to rebuild I'd rather replace with something more appropriate for my driving.
Thanks and have a great Turkey Day holiday.

The close ratio T-19's are a fair choice if you use the appropriate rear end ratio, something around 3.00-3.25 with 31" tires.

I can supply one if needed, PM me if this is a direction you would like to take.
