Rear end "whirring" after lowering...

Post by 67special »

I flipped the rear spring perches, put it back together and now it sounds like the rear end is....whirring,..buzzing,...vibrating...(almost like a 10 speed bike when you dont pedal). It does that through all three gears, and when it gets to about 55-60 the vibrations start to rattle somthing. Ive also noticed it does this more when I accelerate.
Now, I know I changed the pinion angle ALOT, and ive ordered shims to correct that.I really hope that is the problem. Anybody else have any ideas?

Incorrect pinion angle IS your problem. You want 4-5* of pinion angle, opposite the trans angle.

I sure hope so Bobby.....I figured its the only thing that changed. Oh and the way I flipped it moved everything about a 1/2" back(as well as about 8"up!!)

I dont kno yet if it will clear the bed...It'll be close or I might have to trim those perches a little. I got a set of 4* shims today,so tomorrow I'll slip those in. If that fixes my vibration problem, I'll put the bed back. I'll post some pic's when i'm done or if I have to trim those perches. I do not want to butcher the bed, but I will massage it a little if i have to. Wish me luck!

Two and a half inches is about the distance between the bed and the frame in the shackle area.
