OK Guys, here's another "newbie" question:
I've got a T19 in the ol' Merc, replacing the T18. However, the shifter knob on the T19 just kind of "sits" on top of the stick; it's not attached to anything. Sometimes it ends up in my hand after a shift. Not a great thing to have happening.
Who's got a good recommendation for an aftermarket shifter knob?
I just want something half-way "normal". Something "tasteful" (I know, that's highly subjective). Nothing lighted; nothing neon color. No skulls, dice or 8-balls. It looks like the "stick" is 9/16ths wide. Will that be a problem when looking at aftermarket knobs? Plus, the stick has splines on the "knob end". Most aftermarket knobs I'm seeing are meant to be screwed on. Many of them say "universal"; but that often means "universally fits nothing".
Experiences, thoughts and ideas are all welcome.
As always...thanks in advance.

Re: shifter knob
Is it out of an "80-something" truck? Mine is out of an 84, and it sounds like you have the same shifter as mine (until I can get the one that Robroy so kindly sent to me welded on mine to get the "original" look)
82-87 F100-F350 takes E2TZ 7213-B
Closest one to you is at Don's Truck Sales, Fairbank, IA, (800) 462-4406
Green Sales, Cincinnati, OH, also has them (that's where I got mine) (800) 543-4959 (IIRC, it only cost me about 6-7 bucks)
You'll also need an insert that has the shift pattern.
82-87 F100-F350 w/ T18, T19, NP435 takes E2TZ 7N280-D
Green Sales also has this part, and I'm pretty sure it was only a couple of bucks.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

Re: shifter knob
I'm not exactly sure what it's out of. I think maybe it was from a bread truck or something.
Actually, I was kind of hoping to add something a little more flashy than a stock shifter knob and wondered if anyone had any experiences or tips to share.
So, how does a stock knob attach? Maybe it's possilble to get the one I have to stay put.

Re: shifter knob
The original knob is just a press fit.
If you want to go more flashy, you're pretty much going to have to buy a replacement shift lever. They run about $50 from most places. You'll need the one with the short "finger" for the T19, which IIRC, is 3-1/8".
If you decide you want a replacement shift lever, check here: http://www.alltransparts.com/
Bill is the guy I always talk to, and he'll treat you right.
One other option is to find a truck in the boneyard and grab the shifter out of it. Then you can cut both levers near the bottom (not below the ball) and weld the junkyard lever to the one you have now.
