Post by timmytim »

My truck has a auto i believe its a c4. My problem is when I first start truck up if i dont let truck warm up b4 i drive it, the first time i pull up to a stop,it kicks out of gear.I normaly shift it to N then back to D and I dont have anymore problems. Any idea what would cause this :?

Have you checked or changed the fluid lately?

I have check level and its full. I was told it was completely rebuilt about 4 years ago and before i bought truck it was driven very little.Ive owned it since april....Im thinking there maybe some varnish on seals ect. and i should have it flushed but i know how risky it is to change tranny fluid so wanted to see what u guys thought.

What is the condition of the fluid? Color, smell, etc. What are the shift points like once it's warmed up? Shift too early, too late, just right?

shift points are normal. for some reason (i dont remember why i did this)i had to undue the trans lines from the radiator and it leaked out about 3 qrts. the fluid was black.

It may be time for a trans service. Cooked fluid is not a good sign and changing it may not make a difference.
