67 COM to C6 Swap?

Post by STR8TORQUE »

First off if this topic has been beat to death I apologize. I went through about 20 pages and could not find an answer. I have a 67 F100, 2 wheel drive with a cruiseomatic and a 352 in it. I have a 390 I built a few years ago and want to drop it in with a C6 behind it. I plan to put a B&M floor shifter of something similar in at the same time. I am not sure what other changes I will need to make to accommodate the swap. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Driveshaft length and transmission yoke type are the only major things that come to mind, and even those might not be an issue...
Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something.--Plato
Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

That's not an oil leak :nono: That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

the transmission hump may have to be cut out and a high hump cover put in. the c6 is a taller transmission by just a little bit. enough it usually hits the cab when trying to install it in a low hump cab.

on this same sort of topic can a C-6 be taken out backwards and down to the floor or does it have to come out the front with the engine? I'm trying to remove mine this weekend and there doesnt seem to be enough clearance betweeen the cab and front crossmember for the housing to drop through. any suggestions.

it will come out the bottom of the truck when you remove the front transmission crossmember from between the radius arms.

STR8TORQUE,

We've never met but I'm working on that C-6 idea except Im going the other direction swaping to a 4 speed. I have a 68 short hump and all I have to say is that the C-6 with a deep pan that fit nicely behind the 429 but it unfortunately it didn't hold up. The shop warned me that it might not.
Anyway, I have one of those B&M mega shifters and it was a nice fit inside the truck and was no problem to hook up.

I unbolted it (fun job on the ground!) and took a hammer and knocked it as far forward and it will go. There's some big factory rivets on the top of the frame rail that stop it from going any further forward. I'm using a 2lb hammer. I didn't try knocking it backward cause i thought the shape of the frame rail dipping down would pinch it and stop it.

would you suggests hitting it a little harder!

I didn't try that. I was getting tired trying and started thinking about how it was installed over the radiator and sort of convinced myself thats how it had to be removed. i'll give it another shot this week. I'll let you know when I receive the clutch pedal assembly I bought from you, it should be here in a couple days.

Thanks for all of the help. I kind of figured I wouldn't get lucky enough to have it drop right in. I have to replace some metal in the floor pan so I figure that will be a good time to modify the hump. Thanks again.

You should not have to "modify" the hump for the C-6 to work. As Fordman said above there is a "high hump" or taller hump that is pretty plentiful for our trucks still you might need that bolts right in.

Not trying to hijack but I need to put a high hump in myself. Going from a 3.03 manual to a C4 (it was free). Just mark, cut it out, and use sheet metal screws to nail it down? Or use some of those clip nuts? What's that black gunk they used to seal it off? I like to never got it off the hump I got to clean it up.

c4 shouldnt need the hump replaced. i dont think. its only the c6 because it is higher than any other transmission ford used. i forget what the black stuff is called. i think bobby ford knows what it is called.

That's great news, fordman! I wasn't looking forward to stabbing it in order to find out if I needed to or not.
