Hey guys I am in the process of rebuilding my great grandfathers truck a 1970 F-250 Camper Special.
I have a problem where when in drive the transmission will not shift out of first gear. Now if you put the selector into 1st then 2nd the to drive it will shift into 3rd gear and 2nd respectively. But when slowing down again it will down shift into 1st at low speed but will not upshift so the whole thing starts over again. I have had a local mechanic look at it and he found no problem in the main part but later on wants to look at some thing in the cone part of the transmission that is like a governor. Any ideas what the problem might be and how I personally or the mechanic could fix this?
Thanks for the help,
Kelton

Re: Shifting problems
the cone part? the tailhousing maybe? the modulator controls shifting points. maybe that is what he wants to look at.

Re: Shifting problems
Sounds like either the governor piston is sticking or the pressures are low.
Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something.--Plato
Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???
That's not an oil leak That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

Yes the Tail Housing.. Couldn't remember what it was called. Never messed with transmissions much.
Thanks for the quick reply!!
OK so is their away to check the pressures and do you all know what they need to be at?
Thanks,
Kelton

Re: Shifting problems
It has been a while since my last post. I have replaced both modulator and vacuum line for transmission. Still has trouble shifting in to drive and/or 3 gear. Any thoughts?

Re: Shifting problems
Pull the extension housing off and remove and check the governor for stuck piston
