Project - 1972 to 1967
Ok here is what my truck project entails just in case anyone is interested.
I purchased this truck from my parents in 1996 shortly after coming home from the Army. It is a 1972 custom cab SWB that came stock with a 302 2BBL carb, peg leg 3.50 9" and a C-4 tranny. The engine block had a hole in the side of it from one of the connecting rods and the tranny was shot it had white spoke wheels on it completely covered with mold from sitting for years under the trees. The bed was completely rusted out and barely hanging on to the frame. The cab was something you would see on the Flintstones with the large holes in the floor boards for braking. the truck was entirely white except for the green dash and door panels and seat. It had four wheel drum brakes (non-power) and steering by armstrong
The first thing I did to this truck was replace the steering wheel with the one that is currently in it. I then started my search for a motor for it. All in the while doing odd jobs for my parents to pay for the truck.
I eventually found a wrecking yard motor out of a '86 crown vic with only 86,000 miles on it and $450 later it was at home in my parents shop. I eventually got the motor in and running and this when I discovered that the tranny was shot just test driving it down the block. I purchased a used FMX tranny from a private party and installed it. Success at last it was running and driving. It is now 1998 and it is my daily driver for the next 3years.
During that three year period I purchased a 1967 F-100 Camper Special for $200 and robbed all of the necessary parts I needed to convert my '72 into a '67 minus the bed. I purchased the bed sperately for $250 including the tailgate. once i had all the '67 parts i wanted i had to make it match somewhat because a white cab, red doors, and aqua blue bed just did not look good from any distance, which turned into the now present 2-tone which is all rattled canned due to lack of fundage. I later purchased a '72 F-100 from a fellow employee and I kept the power steering components from this while my Brother took what he wanted and the rest went to the crusher. Still needing a cab i eventually found one from a friend of my brothers which is completely rust free but not a '67 but a '69 which is fine because i am not too fond of the pull controls. So far the cab is still sitting in my garage and has not seen rain or bad weather in 3 years.
The truck was then lowered by my ever helpful brother which much to my surprise made it ride like a limo. Smoother than any car I have ever owned.
And finally in July of 2005 I installed my HO 5.0 from a '93 Mustang GT again with help from my brother and finally installed the power steering i had been hauling around for years. This is when i found out that I had been running the wrong flex plate on this truck since I replaced the FMX (which blew for the second time in 8 months) with a C-6 in 2000. Well I just recieved the new flex plate on Saturday VIA FedEx and will be installing it this coming weekend, looking forward to see what kind of power this new motor has.
I will keep you posted of the many fun things I have left to accomplish on this truck.

You two are going to be too busy snuggling with the little ones to have time for your trucks.

re: About my project - 1972 to 1967 UPDATE
WELL THE NEW FLEXPLATE IS IN AND LOW AND BEHOLD THE HARMONIC BALANCER WAS INCORRECT TOO. SO NOW WITH THE VIBRATION GONE THE TRUCK WENT OUT ON THE ROAD FOR ITS FIRST TEST DRIVE. COME TO FIND OUT IT WON'T GO TO FAST WITH THE OLD MOTOR STILL IN THE BACK. WELL ONCE THE OLD MOTOR WAS REMOVED AND A NEW CHOKE PULL OFF INSTALLED THE NEW MOTOR SEEMED TO REALLY COME ALIVE. I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE POWER THAT THIS NEW MOTOR HAS OF COURSE THAT COULD BE JUST FROM YEARS OF DRIVING AROUND WITH OUT ANY!
THE AIR CLEANER IS NOW INSTALLED AND SO IS THE SMOG PUMP ELIMINATOR. WHO WOULD FIGURE THAT A SMOG PUMP COULD MAKE SO MUCH NOISE WHAT A DIFFERENCE WHEN I REMOVED THAT PILE OF CRAP. WELL ONCE THE SMOG PUMP WAS REMOVED IT ALLOWED FOR ME TO HEAR THE FAINT EXHAUST LEAK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE HEADER NOT TO WORRY A QUICK TIGHTEN OF THE BOLT AND THAT WILL BE THE END OF THAT.
NEW ARM RESTS ARRIVED A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO SO THOSE WERE JUST INSTALLED ALSO WHAT A DIFFERENCE TO REST YOUR ARM ON SOMETHING SOLID INSTEAD OF BITS AND PIECES OF WHAT USED TO BE AN ARM REST.
SPEAKING OF BITS AND PIECES ALL I HAVE LEFT TO GET FOR BODY PIECES IS AN INNER FENDER AND A ROLL PAN FOR THE REAR AND THEN I CAN START THE DISASSEMBLY PROCESS FOR THE CAB REPLACEMENT AND FRAME PAINTING. I WILL ALSO BE REPLACING ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES TO INCLUDE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLES. THE TOUGH PART ABOUT THIS WHOLE PROCESS IS GOING TO BE PAINT REMOVAL AS I WILL BE DOING IT ALL MYSELF.
TO VIEW THE CURRENT STATUS OF MT TRUCK PLEASE VIEW MY GALLERY AS I WILL POST PICTURES OF THE RECENT WORK VERY SHORTLY.

Re: About my project - 1972 to 1967
Time to revive a dead thread............
This poor truck has been through so much abuse it's not even funny. I put this project on the back burner and got totally wrapped up into mustangs, which I am still into, but have come back around full circle to my first love, the 67-72 trucks. The truck has been off the road for 8 years now (2006) and is now getting the attention it finally deserves. With the help of my brother we are doing a complete frame off restoration of the truck. We will start stripping it down this week and pulling the wire harnesses out to get it ready for sandblasting. I have pulled out the 302 and AOD and am installing a 30 over 390 with a C6, long tube headers, aluminum intake, 4 barrel carb and rebuilding the 9" rear-end.
This is what the truck last looked like in 2006 just before I moved into my house and parked the truck.
And what it looks like today
And this is the color I will be painting it
I will post pics as we progress so everyone can see it come together.

Cool! Looking forward to seeing another resurrection.
Stanwood....How's the traffic on the 5 through Mt. Vernon/Burlington these days? I remember the Skagit bridge got wiped out by an oversized load last year. I used to live in Olympia (2000-2006) and traveled to nearly every corner of WA, ID and OR for work (sub contractor for Qwest). I am very familiar with your area. I kinda miss the Cascades...but not the invasive moss

So the motor is done and the C6 trans is rebuilt. I ordered a new front bumper, aluminum radiator, complete wiring harness, core support, hood hinges, door weather strip kit, headlight retaining rings and Ranger emblems for the bed side.
I still have a lot more to buy but will plug away at it slowly. Hoping to get it inside in the next couple of weeks to start tear down and start sending sheet metal to the sand blasters to get ready for paint.
Decided to stay with 15" wheels from Earlywheel.com . Going with a 15X7 up front and 15X10 in the rear powercoated Hot Rod RED with chrome trim rings and center caps with BFG Radial T/A's for that old school look as well.
