Hey guys. I need opinions and help. I have my 70 F250 2 wheel drive and my 68 F250 4 wheel drive. The 70 is pretty much done for what I plan to do to it. The 68 needs a motor and the body has some rust issues. I don't really need three trucks so here is my thought. I'm thinking of taking my 70 body and motor and dropping on the 68. From what i have read it should be a direct swap body wise or am I wrong? By doing this I will have the truck I've always wanted and will only have two trucks to take care of. I don't really have the money to fix the 68 up. Is there any differences between 68 and 70 that I might run into that would prevent me from doing this? Thanks for any help with this. If I confused you on having three trucks, my wife has a 70 F100 too.

Bodywise the only difference is how the rear cab mounts are attached. On 2WDs they're inside the frame on the crossmember, but on F250 4WDs the rear cab mounts are outside the frame. To mount a 2WD cab on an F250 4WD chassis you simply need to drill out the cab mounting holes on each side of the floorpan in the appropriate spot. The floorpan is dimpled where you need to drill, so it's a no-brainer.
Incidentally, that 4WD doesn't appear to be a '68. It's got a '72 grille, the auxiliary tank filler neck is below the beltline, which is a '70-'72 feature, and the bed has '70-'72 side lamps. Also, 4WDs didn't get an auxiliary tank, since it won't clear the transfer case, so I'm guessing that you don't actually have a tank there, just the filler neck....'cause the body (or at least the bed) has been transplanted already from a 2WD (unless it's an aftermarket tank that mounts outside the frame).

Thanks for the replys and thanks for the info Keith. I will have to do some research with the vin. The title says 68 but who knows. The truck does not have an auxiliary tank right now. I noticed the grill was different too but didn't notice the bed. The 70 does have an auxiliary tank that is outside the frame. So, overall it doesn't sound really hard to do except for lifting the cab and bed. I already have the front end and motor off of the 68.

Thanks for the pictures Ryan. I think this is what I've decided to do and wasn't sure how hard it would be. I think I remember reading you used a 2 wheel drive cab. Was that easy to mount? Your truck looks like it turned out pretty good. I just need to see where things disconnect so I can seperate the bed and cab from the frame. I might try to do it at the dealership I work at. Two lifts and a days work and I might just be able to get it done. Of course some beer for the mechanics that help too.

I have not yet redrilled my rear cab mount holes in the cab, but I'll do that soon. IT's just a matter of getting a drill with a bit and drilling through the marked hole in the corners of the cab. I plan on taking the body back off soon to restore the whole chassis.

I swapped my 72 f100 onto a 72 250 4x4 in 2 days. easy swap. drove to breakfast in a 2wd friday, drove to lunch in a 4wd sunday
