NP 205 Lubrication
Hello, I'm finding conflicting recomendations on the type oil to use in my NP 205. Some sources say 80w90 others say 50 weight engine oil. I read the article on transfer case basics and saw that it recomends 80w90 but my ford manual says 50 weight. Any of you guys got a good solution? thank you.

You can run it on 50wt, 90wt, ATF, synthetic, probably fill it up with antifreeze and it'll last awhile.
90wt is the appropriate oil to use.
90wt is the appropriate oil to use.

Re: NP 205 Lubrication
the reason the conficting reports. is because oil manufacting has changed over the years.so the new 50 isnt the same as the old 50 weight oil. the new 80/90 is closer to the old 50 weight they say.

What a load of crap. The standard measurement of oil viscosity hasn't changed. 50w is still 50w and 90w is still 90w.fordman wrote:the reason the conficting reports. is because oil manufacting has changed over the years.so the new 50 isnt the same as the old 50 weight oil. the new 80/90 is closer to the old 50 weight they say.

i didnt say it was true. i was just giving a reason why the conflicting reports. some think it is true while others dont think it is true. myself i think straight 50 weight back then is the same as it is now.

Right, but by posting it, you are perpetuating the rumor.fordman wrote:i didnt say it was true. i was just giving a reason why the conflicting reports. some think it is true while others dont think it is true. myself i think straight 50 weight back then is the same as it is now.
Glad you see through it, though!
