Have any of you used a long tail shaft C6 in a truck?

I have one in my '63 Unibody, behind a 390. It's been in there (rebuilt twice) for the 26 years that I've owned the truck with no problems.

i had a 72 parts truck with one in it and a 69 parts truck with one in it. both were swapped from 73-79 trucks.

I've got my long tail shaft C-6 rebuilt waiting to go in the truck, (gotta' finish the engine).
Be advised you have to match the output shaft with the tail shaft I believe, (short shaft uses a different output shaft vs. long shaft).
Dustin could probably be a real good source of info here.

My 68 had one in it behind a 460 when I got it.

I had one in the 70 before I swapped it out for an NP435. I got it out of an 80's F150 and just used its one pice drive shaft and it worked fine.

What makes it a long tailshaft? Does any one have any pictures?

the long tailshaft will be a slipyoke driveshaft instead of a bolt on yoke driveshaft.

I'm going to find out in the next few days. (360 coming out today and 460, C6 going in for mock-up). I'm going to see if my FE, C6 mount will work with my 460 trans swap. I'm not sure if the mounts and crossmember are different between my '72 and say '73-'79 F-series 460, C6.
I remember Basketcase saying that the crossmembers are different. I'm going to use a angle finder on the bottom of the pan and see if there is an angle variance between the two engine/trans combos.

the trans crossmember mounts were the same in the 73-79 trucks. it was just the rubber insulator that was different. it had the botl hole in a different spot for the auto vs a manual trans. that is why robroy had to drill out his transmount to make it fit with his trans and crossmember.

I'm using a different trans but the same mount, crossmember and extension housing so prolly won't have any issues.

My only concern is that a '72 C6 crossmember has a different part number than a '73-'79 460, C6 crossmember.

thats wierd they had a different part number maybe it was hte bolt hole location on the crossmember. here is a pic of soem bumpside crossmembers. one is manual trans on the right and the other two are automatics on the left. you can see how the position of the bolt holes on the end of them changes for the type of transmission and length of transmission you put in.
