Sweet '68 Shortwide

Post by 89ford »

Hello I am Darek I'm 17 and I am pretty much building this truck from ground up I have built the 302 I am putting into it nothing special except its a late model block, has a weiand aluminum intake, an hei distributor and an edelbrock carburetor. For a transmission I have gotten a c6 from FordTruck and it is in really good shape according to my friend who worked in a transmission shop all his life after working in the ford factory. I have been doing everything in the last three hours of daylight after school. I got a rearend for it and its a 9 inch with 3.70 gearset. Anyways I go to a votech school during high school and will use it to my advantage to make my own driveshaft. Oh and some plans are to take the toolbox and rollbar out of it. Tell me what you think heres the pics...

You don't start out with easy projects do you?

That is a great find... wish I had a short box. It's going to be a nice truck once you put it back togeather. Throw some nice wheels on it and clean it up, that in itself will make a dramatic difference.

Looks like you have a couple parts vehicles available to you too..... I'd take full advantage of that.

Have patients, don't give up, and you will have a sweet classic ride....

Haha well the 4x4 didn't end up happening because I didn't get the frame like I thought I would. Anyways yeah there are about 14 trucks in that field but the '68 in the pic is the only one that is mine. The rest of them belong to the guy that I got my '68 from. I love this truck and I actually have a '75 bought to do some uprgrades with but thanks for the comments keep 'em comin :D

Darek,
Do you want to "borrow" my basketcase username for awhile! That truck is in much worse shape than mine was in. Thanks for bringing another bump back into life. Your engine / tranny combo is the exact same as mine. Lot of folks around here will tell us about the C-6 behind the SBF being a "torque robbing combo". Personally... I think you'll need to invest into your local Goodyear store to keep tires on it! Gonna be a real nice truck!

I think it's great to see a kid your age interested in this stuff.
I've got a 15 year old step son that i still don't think is sure of what end of a screwdriver to use.
Keep us posted on the progress and take lots of pics.
As for that 75 for parts, is it 2wd? grab that front suspension and convert to disc brakes and P/S. :2cents:

Well, dont look like much, YET. Sounds like its all there though, and you already have a fantastic start if the front wrap is already on. I can't wait to see some progress pics/info on it.
