I am glad you didn't!

When I was about 7 my somewhat over-protective mother was in charge of the little buckaroo rodeo for the PTA. I got signed up to ride a bronco. I still have the picture of me stylin in my high top converse tennis shoes (that was back when you could get them in black or black). I lasted about 4 seconds. When I landed I couldn’t breathe for about 45 seconds which was great because it meant I couldn’t cry in front of everybody. That was the first time I had the wind knocked out of me.

My dad got signed up for the chariot races. The chariot was a 55 gallon drum with two wheels about 12 inches apart. It was almost impossible to turn at the end of the arena without tipping over. He made the mistake of leaving a chapstick in his pocket. That was back when the tubes were steel. He may still have a bruise 40 years later.
