Nitrous and the Stock 360 FE????
I'm curious if my stock low mileage(50,000 miles) 360Cid could take a 150-200HP Shot of Nitrous without spilling it's guts or otherwise compromising the integrity of the engine????

Nitrous is power adder.
Just like a turbo , a blower or a big cam and good heads , anything that enhances power is hard on the lower end.
If it is stock you can get away with it for a while but it WILL compromise the engines integrity.
A 150 shot isn't all that much but you still have to tune for it. If you're drag racing repeatedly it may not last long
If you're mud racing in a drag hole for 5 seconds it'll last longer.
Nitrous is wonderful stuff but I've seen people blow their air cleaner lids through their hood scoops.
Built properly it'll last. (longer). A buddy of mine would squeeze 600 horse through a small chevy.
But it was a learning curve to get there. and in mud it was only a few seconds at a time.

Re: Nitrous and the Stock 360 FE????
Well in all Honestly in the long run it will cease to be a 360 FE and become between a 418Cid FE or up to a 477Cid FE which in and of it's willl make a big power increase but with a competition cams XE262H Grind and some fully ported and polished heads with oversized valves,10.0:1 Compression Ratio and between a bore of 4.100-4.192 or more depending on whether it's a 360/390/410 block or 428 Block and between a 3.980" Stroke 390 Crank or a 4.250" Scat Stroker Crank so the shot of nitrous would probly just be overkill now that I think about it ofcourse that'd also have port matched 4 barrel dual plenum intake and with a mechanical secondaries 650CFM 4160 breathing shouldn't be a problem and Large stepped tub headers with true dual exhaust and an H or X pipe with probly flowmaster 40 or 50 series capping it off at the end will let it breath freely and a pertronix distributor with 50,000 volt coil ;)and most likely a gear drive to replace the stretch prone chains .. My game plan is to get a rebuildable Sonic Checked core and then buy the coresponding rotating assembly have it balanced and based on the size of bore diameter get the right sized pistons and wrist pins I need based on which block I'm using. That way I can keep driving the 360Cid until the 418-477cid is built and setup like I want it that way you know I can take my time and get exactly what I want if need be 1 or 2 parts at a time as finances would allow and there'd be no rush to hurry up fixit and get it back on the road over the weekend crap

Well then you might as well get some good rods and forged pistons .
Then you can add about a 500 shot .
(the you can find the weak parts in your drive train.)

I have no doubt with the engine built like that it'd eat the factory 3 speed on the column and if not that then the rear axle , or Both

What rear end do you have?
X2 on forged pistons and good rods.

Ford 9" not sure of ratio though. as for the other stuff in the case of the rods I'm planning on H-beam rods and Forged pistons is a given

I believe 9" rears are pretty stout. If your 3rd member has the N cast into it, even better.

You are gonna wanna rethink using a dual plane intake with NOS. 125 or so is max with dual plane.

Re: Nitrous and the Stock 360 FE????
Eh I'm not too worried about that limitation cause this aint gonna be a drag or race truck I plan to use it as it was intended for a Truck and daily driver I just wanna be able to get on it from time to time and 125HP shots better than nothing especially when you consider how rarely I'll use it. BUT having said that if I can get my hands on an Edelbrock Streetmaster intake for the 390 then all bets are offdustman_stx wrote:You are gonna wanna rethink using a dual plane intake with NOS. 125 or so is max with dual plane.

Re: Nitrous and the Stock 360 FE????
That's what I'm running. With forged H beam rods and forged Keith Black pistons. 10:1 comp, full roller. Running ported and polished stock heads that are holding me back. A $1500 set of heads will probably get me another 50-75 horse, but $500 will get me another 200 horse. I would rather not run NOS, but sure is tempting at this point.

yeah long term goal for my engine will be a fully tricked out set of Edelbrock Performer RPM Heads preferably with 2.30" Intake valves and 2.00" Exhaust Valves I want it to breath quite well

Re: Nitrous and the Stock 360 FE????
well i dont know about the old FE motors except mine is tough considering i would run it up to 100 mph and it leaking like a sive and still run fine but the nitrous on us 3rd gen hemi, we on a stock 5.7 can only handle about a 125 shot with little tunning and 150 shot with good tuning, but thats on our motors and i run a 100 shot on my magnum and is totaly fine with it , i have all stock internals and this is really like comparing apples to oranges so sorry.
