inline 6 problem

Post by suttonsd »

I have a inline 6 300 that seems to be leaking around the spark plugs. I have tried tightening them and also cleaning the mating services. I see a little oil puddling around two of the spark plugs and it is smoking at those two plugs. it does not look like it is leaking down from valve cover gasket but i could be wrong, is it even possible for it to seep by the plugs from the cylinders, just a little confused as what it could be. Thanks for any help.

I'm going to day it's got to be the valve cover gasket. It's normal for that leak to cause puddling up in the plug ports in the head. If the plug(s) were leaking you'd be blowing compression, not oil.

It's possible they could leak a bit if the threads are old, and
the plug is not real tight. Those six bangers seem to want the
plugs pretty tight, or they can slightly leak, or work loose
fairly quick.
I think I would try some anti seize paste on the plug
threads, and use it as a sealer of sorts, and torque it down
pretty tight.
Not too tight though.. Don't exceed the torque specs.

BTW, it could be the cover gasket too, just saying in
case it is the plugs leaking a bit.
Tape some white paper or sumtin below the cover
to see if the oil is coming from above.
