carburator vacuum

Post by newb70f250camper »

i have a really stupid question about vacuum on carbs. when the truck is running there should be vacuum at the vacuum port at the bottom of the carburator. when the carburator is off the truck. should you be able to blow into it and get air to pass through it, or should you feel a restriction. I suck on it and air comes through it and when i blow into it i feel a restriction. Is the normal? if not what is the problem? :help:

I'm not aware of a check valve being in place but that sounds like what you are describing. Problem is if it's there then it's installed backwards! If you suck on it and it's un-restricted but blow and it is then when it is sucking it is restricted! All I can think of offhand is maybe there is a gasket that is slightly covering the hole and flapping in the wind.

If you continue to have issues reply here, I've got an old Autolite 2100 in the shed I can look at.
