1972 Ford F250 Saddlebag gas tanks

Post by cadillaccoo »

Hey All

Well the ford i thought was a 71 turns out to be a 72 and i just got a better look at it tonight and removed all of the junk from out of the Bed and found two saddlebag gas tanks in the back and wondering if that was something that was a good idea to have... what if some one hits me on the side lol. Having the truck taken into the shop tommorrow to see what could be wrong before we start it up the first time after sitting for 8 years.

Also i thought the Truck had olny 49999 miles on it but could be 149,999. The break pedal is kind of worn out and has parts of the rubber missing and underthe hood is kind of rusty.....

Are the tanks IN the bed or underneath the bed? do you have the factory Aux tank as you stated in a different post that it was a Camper Special which usually means it did. Post some pics if you can.

The cab tank is supposed to be there. If you have the saddle tanks in the bed and they work, I'd leave them. I have saddle tanks under the bed on my '68 and eventually the driver side one will be removed to make room for the aux tank out of my '72.

As long as they work and don't look bad, there is no reason to remove them. :2cents:

if they are in the bed and not under it they have been added by someone. get rid of them. if they are inside of the bed.

Hey

They are in the bed one on each side. Right up tight to the front of the bed. They are painted in the same color as the Truck>... Were they not an option you could get when youpurchased the truck?????? They are like rectangle. I will post picks once it get it out of the shop...

All saddle tanks are "added by someone." If they work there's no reason to get rid of them unless he wants to.

No.

Some dealers added saddle tanks under the bed with a little aluminum door riveted to the bed. I've seen others inside the bed as you are describing. They work the same way. I think inside the bed would be safer than under the bed/outside of the frame in a side impact anyway.

well it is my opinion to get rid of anything in the bed. to make room fo rbed space. as far as outside the rail tanks . i think they would be more dangerous than inside the frame rail.

we are talking about the same thing. exactly. my truck has those junky under bed tanks on both sides outside the frame rail and they are more dangerous. i also like my bed to be clear of un nesasary junk. the incab tank is the only thing i have ever used on my truck though. so i have not had any need for extra fuel tanks. this is my opinion to get rid of those tanks. becuase they are either dangerous if outside the rail or in the way if they are inside of the bed.
