Electric Fan... Pusher or Puller?

Post by suavematt »

Hey all

Been ages since I've been on here... Welp' my Big-Ford (1979 Super-Cab/Super-Long 8'6" Bed) Has been over-heating when I'm pulling stuff around town, or draggin' stuff while working etc... It's got a 351M/C6... I just don't think the Mechanical Fan is doin' it justice. Sooo... I've "acquired" a Big Dual set of electric-fans that flew off a late-mod F-250 when it got in a wreck down-town a while back  ... Still works great! My question is should I hook it up as a pusher, if front of the Rad' behind my Grill... or as a Puller, & mount it inside my engine bay ? Would love to hear your thoughts opinion.
Thanks!

10-4... Think I should replace the mechanical fan with it, or keep it too & just run em' both?
thanks, later.

If you put the electric fan on the radiator as a puller the mechanical fan won't pull any air through the radiator. Just pull it off and gain a couple hp.

Welp' took the mechanical fan off & got the electric unit on there & wired up; I tossed the thermostat & just hard-wired it to the ACC so as long as the Truck is running the Fan is too. So far so Good. I think this should likely fix my over-heating issues... But I'll also be picking up & installing an Auxiliary Trans-fluid cooler too... & maybe a remote-oil filter with a finned oil-cooler plumbed into, after the filter, just before the oil goes back into the engine... Might as well do all I can to keep the ol' boy "cool" 8) & me happy  :2cents: :fr:

Later all.

Hmm... :hmm: So where/who is the Best place to buy a "Heavy-Duty" 4-Core Radiator? LMC's prices are just more than I'm willing to spend for a Rad'... Check all my local J-yards & every F-250 or higher/Van has been robbed of theirs... I'm wanting to set this thing up as a 1-ton Hauler... Got an 8-lug Dana 70 that will eventually one day find it's way under the Truck... I got a FORD OEM F-350 Oil-Cooler system that will eventually get installed... gonna get an auxiliary Trans-Cooler system on there too.

I pull a lot of trees/logs, blocks, tile, etc... stuff that makes normal F-150's squat & most chev's look like Low-riders

Thanks  Later.
