'67 F100 stepside - full resto new photos 03/03/2013

So let me introduce myself - although I have posted a few questions elsewhere on this forum - I decided i would start a project
thread to record the progress.

I am originally from the UK and have never worked on US cars before - so am excited. so here is the beast - I bought this as I just love the shape and the fact it is 3 on the tree ! (plus a big block :wink: )

but it did come with an F600 cluster - although nothing works.

It is alledgedly an original 352 - although I haven't measured the stroke etc.

I'm excited - but will need a ton of advice and although I know i'm at the right place for help - you'll have to put up with the stupid questions .

The first of which is :lol:

I want to do a complete restoration - everything off the chassis - and will probably buy an FE 390 and then put heads etc on it to get some HP.

but what order and where do i start stripping it down ?

bed ? - clip ?

anyone have a project plan written down I could share ?

for what i have been doing on my 67, i have been taking it apart one part at a time and putting each of the part's hardware (nuts, bolts ect) in a ziplock bag with a index card saying what the hardware goes to. i put each bag in a assigned box which i have three. one for the front clip, engine. one for the intire cab and one for the bed and rear end. i think the more you keep your parts organized the better the rebuild will be for you. everthing should have a place to go when it comes off. i even removed the intire wire harness and put it in a box out of the way. i hope this helps, and for where to start. thats all up to you i suppose. i started with the front and have slowly been working back until everthing is off except for stripped cab. don't be in a rush, and just take your time.

Yep, take off the front end stuff, then the bed, then you can strip the cab and then pull it off. You are left with the engine, frame and suspension. Most guys will go ahead and pull off the drivetrain and start with the suspension and frame. Then build the drivetrain, then the body and bits. This works great if you aren't really changing anything on the truck. If you are going to change to a manual trans, different style motors (352 to 390 isn't a style change), or any other major changes, then I like to do those things while the truck is whole. Once you have the mechanics where you want them, then strip the truck down to the frame.

and got the engine out .. that's my son helping - tomorrow - gonna make a frame so I cam mount engine to work on that and run it.

So I finally found time to tear the truck down - the cab is loose - I just need to find some man power to help me lift it off and bring it inside. I also took the glass out - teh back i can re-use - the front will need a new one due to yellow glue seepage up into the main screen - what causes this ?

so we got the cab off and in the garage - now I can really see the rust problems I have ! - I hope I have not bitten off more tahn I can chew :pray: :eek:

so here is the journey into the garage. we used the HF hoist and then a trolley jack as the 4th wheel to inch it passed the hoist legs. For two of us - it was quite easy - now i can see the underside - i mean the rust - no i really mean the holes & daylight :D

This is a great way to keep track of your hardware. This is a must IMHO. I did this with my Duster & it was so nice not having to crawl around looking for lost hardware.

The main thing is to take your time & dont bite off more that you can chew. If you get in a heated rush, you will end up with parts scattered all over & your project will become more overwhelming than you can imagine :2cents:

Good luck ! I miss my flareside :(
