Wayward hoses on my 302
My newest donor truck has a 302 w/auto trans. It has power brakes and that is connected right. I have 3 small hoses that go nowhere, one of which is on the vac advance but I dont see a connection for any of them. The PCV was unhooked and I think it goes to the orifice behind the carb. I tried to label them to help identify them to avoid mass confusion. Any help would be great.

ignore hoses A and B they go to nothing. the dist advance is suppose to go to the front passenger side of the carb. but i dont see a port for it. the pcv you have marked in the last pic is where it is suppose to go at.

Fordman is correct.
In an effort to affect emissions in the early 70s they used devices which did not allow vacuum to go to the distributor except at high speeds and coolant temperatures.
The device with wires and hoses is an electrical switch to turn vacuum off and on.

Re: Wayward hoses on my 302
Thanks guys. It took me a while to find the PCV port on the carb spacer, but with the hood hinges being bent from the wreck I couldnt lift the hood much so I took the hood off to poke around better. At least now I know where the giant sucking sound was coming from and why it wouldnt stay running. Ill have to poke around some more to figure out where that vac adv hose goes. The end of it looks like it was attached to something but its too short to get to the carb. I was thinking maybe there was a part missing near the front of the engine like a valve that it went to.

I plugged the port on the carb spacer for the PCV hose just for now and the engine ran much better. I still havent figured out where the vacuum advance hose goes yet. Theres no orifice anywhere within reach to connect to.

The vacuum advance hooks up to a port beneath your auto-choke.
First pic is a base model carb, second one has the smog junk like yours:
Be sure to get your PCV hooked up, bad things happen to gaskets and seals when the block builds up pressures.

Re: Wayward hoses on my 302
The small/short vacuum hoses went to a device that screwed into the block (water passage) and stoped vacuum until the water temp was appropriate.
Vacuum running from carb to dist is what you need.

Re: Wayward hoses on my 302
I finally located that orifice on my smog carb today. I couldnt see it until I took my inner fender off and could look up and under the auto choke assembly. Thanks for the help!
