holley 1940

Post by killakobra »

we started dismantling my carb to clean it and install a new float. well, come to find out the place where the idle air adjustment is busted out on the inside. we go to buy a new one and can't find one. what would be a good replacement for a 300 L6?

Replace the Holley with the same kind of Holley?

Fix the old one with JB Weld?

i suppose but that's more than $17.49. i didn't know if there was any preference between the ford, the holley, or the carter so i thought i would ask.

turns out that my ford 1100 is from a 223. that may be why i can't find a rebuild kit for it. time to buy another carb i guess.

Try to find another Holley 1940 if you can. I think it is the best option of the three that will fit on your 1 bbl intake.
Thats what Ive got on my truck and gives me good gas mileage and performance. It is a replacement carb for these trucks, not that uncommon and you may find one on ebay if youre patient. I just rebuilt mine about 6 mos. ago and it was a little tricky but luckily it went together without needing a third hand, and is working good. The option I have come to think would be good is to put on a offenhauser intake on the six, and a small Rochester carb mounted on it.
