need help with stock ford 2 barrel carb motorcraft

i cant get the chock rich and lean right.any sugggestion on tuning the electric choke? thanks fordification.

so it wont work correctly when you turn it? what is it doing maybe its something else.

i got it to idle now thanks.i was turning it moving it about a inch everytime it was wrong i just had to just move it a hair lol.thanks.

nevermind after a while the butterfly gets stuck in close position?

It sounds like the choke element is either kaput or isn't getting power all the time.
An easy way to check if it's getting steady power is rig up a test light inline with the wire to the choke and set the light somewhere you can see it while driving.
If the light goes out, you know the choke isn't getting power.

it almost sounds like its backwards. if it closes after awhiel while its running. it should open it up not close it. mayeb i am misunderstanding the post.

it has just the negative connection wire.is it suppose to have positive also?

It has to have a positive wire connected to the choke thermostat housing.

The negative wire provides a ground.

The choke thermostat operates by providing calibrated resistance between the positive connection and ground, thereby heating up the bi-metal spring inside the housing.

oh ok i hooked up the ground it didnt have a positive wire but ill hook that up also.should i connect it to the coil ignition?

Hook it to the stator terminal on the alternator. Should be marked with an 'S'.
