Do you have your heart set on a 460? I think a Cummins swap would suit you well.
This is coming from a avid supporter of 460 swaps.
The only reason is that you will have better mileage with the Cummins.

Re: I want to build a 460
You could put a 5.9 cummins in your truck that'd make a mockery of the best 15K dollar 460 pulling 20K up a grade while getting 3+ times the mileage for under $1500.
460's are good motors, but gas is expensive and compression ignition with a turbo always wins over gas engines.
Buy a wrecked dodge 2wd 5 speed 94-98.5 cummins and swap the engine and trans in or buy a 95-96 auto if you want an auto. That engine will be way, way too much for any SWB truck, but it sure as heck is a much better investment than any big block is for a tow rig these days.

Re: I want to build a 460
ok not to highjack this thread but Anyway This Diesel engine would it be a good choice for high performance as in beef it up to ungodly power levels????? in a 1968 LWB currently sporting a 360Cid???? or is it not realistic to soupe up this diesel....also how expensive would all the other parts needed be I.E. fuel pump/fuel tank/etc.

Don't buy anything from fordcummins. Their parts suck to put it mildly.
Buy any wrecked or rusted 2wd 89-98.5 dodge for under $2000 and drop it under the hood of your truck with an intercooler. Fabricate your engine and transmission mounts, get your angles right and you'll have a really big smile on your face.
I put a 1991 intercooled 5.9 12 valve in my 89 dually and put $200 in my pocket by the time the swap was done and I'd sold the old IDI and parted the dodge. The 5.9 is turned up quite a bit (maxxed), it hauls *ss in a 11K pound truck, gets double the mileage of the 7.3 with 3 times the power at 1800 RPM lower in the powerband.
People have stuffed 5.9 Cummins engines into ford rangers and made them look stock. I've made them fit in the same space as a small block. Just keep in mind you will have to deal with 700+ lb/ft of torque at 1600 RPM. A 1/2 ton frame won't like that much if your tires can't spin.

Dude,if you put that cummins diesel in a swb pick-up,it would burn the rubber off the back tires in a heartbeat, ive seen some info on a diesel site, with just bolt on parts, these guys are getting upwards of 800 plus H:P: at th rear tires, dyno proven, you better be pulling something with it when you get it on the road,it will be overkill, but boy,Id sure like to drive it!!! Id go for it if thats what your gonna do.
