352 locked up

Post by oddball »

My uncle has a 67 F-250 with a 352. We took it on a dump run, after he dropped me off he went to start it and the solenoid clicked. One click per turn of the key. Solenoid and battery are good. I tried to turn the crank in either direction and it wouldn't budge. So I checked the timing chain and push rods, there good. I pulled the distributor out to look at that and I heard the oil pump driveshaft drop into the pan, so that sucks. What else could be wrong? I know the starter is at least 20 years old, maybe its stuck? This truck ran smooth and quiet up to this point so I'm not suspecting oil starvation. Any help would be great

probably just a bd connectio to the battery starter or solinoid. did you try to turn the enigne with a socket and breaker bar or just your hands? hands wont turn an engine over sometimes.

I had a starter drive gear get stuck on the flywheel once (I guess it was jammed against a tooth instead of between two). I had to remove the starter and reinstall it to fix the problem. I could not un-jam it by trying to rock the motor back and forth with a breaker bar on the crank bolt.
You may be able to fish the oil pump driveshaft out of the drain hole with a small section of coat hanger wire.

ok then what else: maybe the oil pump locked up and the dist wouldnt turn becuase of that. maybe the rocker shaft broke. i am guessing. is it manual or automatic? what does the dip stick read? full ? half ? empty? is the truck in gear? or park? maybe something went wrong with the clutch or the transmission.

My 390 starter did the same thing and when I pulled the starter off I found a bolt jammed between the bendix and starter housing. Motor would not turn either.
