360 timing upgrade(s)?

Post by suavematt »

Hey all,
Welp' I've come to think that the 360 in my 1973 motor-home has jumped time :hmm: It's not starting or running like it used to. What's the best buy for a new timing set ? Double-roller Chain, or is it really worth it to upgrade to timin' gears? Also, for any that have done this, what brand did you decide to go with & how has it held up? I'll likely change the old dizzy' for a newer aftermarket one too, while I'm at it just to get it all done in one go... Should I stay points to or upgrade to one of the electronic/dura-spark style ones? And lastly, how much has to come off to install the new set? Thanks in advance for the thoughts/opinions  .

Later!

a double roller chain will not stretch as easily as a stock chain will. so i would go with that. you will have to change gears and all when you do it of course.

Ya, generally the new gears come with the double-roller chain (atleast they did when I put the Cloyles Double-Roller set-up in my 72' stang...) I was more thinkin' of Pete Jackson style timing gears when I mentioned them above. Just like to get an idea of what others have done that has worked out well for them.. as this is thew first FE I've ever had to work on... hopefully in a year or so I'll have the funds saved to turn it into a 410! .. but til' then, I want to atleast keep it decently drivable.
Thanks for the reply!
