yes that could work fine. your radiator should ahve a trans cooler on it if it was an autoamtic radiator to begin with. the manual transmission radiators didnt have the built in trans cooler in them.

As far as electric fans go a LOT of people swear by the mid 90's Ford Taurus 2speed factory electric fans. You can find quite a few write ups online using them if you do a google search.

If you go with a new one I would say 2 things,

1. You get what you pay for.
2. If you have A/C get a 2speed fan.

As always Just my 2 cents,

x2 on the taurus fans. 94-97 Tbird works well also. Don't forget to upgrade the charging system when you do this.

They draw a lot of amps. I believe members talk about using the alt off of a Taurus .Be sure to upgrade the wiring for it. I have mine wired seperate on a toggle switch so I can use it as I need it. I have a aftermarket used as a pusher. ( in front of the radiator}, only need it in hot weather heavy traffic.

I've been thinking of doing this as well. Anyone know what the stock alternator (FE 360) puts out versus the Taurus alt? Is the Taurus alt a direct bolt in?

Most "stock" FE alternators were 42-55 amp. Most 3G units are at least 90 amp. For our trucks, an alternator off of a 98 (or so) v6 mustang is a bolt in. There are some wiring issues to be addressed, but nothing real complicated. If you get an alt out of a wrecking yard, get as much of the alternator harness as you can. There is an excellant tutorial on this website about how to change to a 3G. As far as the fan goes, the taurus shroud ass'y is a bit smaller than the t-bird unit, but either one will pull enough air. Some mounting brackes will have to be made up, nothing major, just the usual, "measure twice, make it once" kind of deal.

Cool. I'm gonna have to take a trip down to the junker in a few weeks for some junkyard tuning.

Pardon my newbieness, but what's a "3G"
