Fuel Gauge on New Fuel Tank

Post by tod-hog »

I did the fuel tank swap to the mustang tank between the rails. I'm having some issues with the fuel gauge however. It will only read half full even when completely full. Have those of you that have done this swap had this issue and what did you do to remedy?

The top of the rheostat wiring in the sender has a tendency to get corroded. If you dismantle the sender and wire wheel the wire wrap with a dremel it will work.

Where did you guys get your tanks? I just bought a 22 gallon Mustang tank and I'm going to do the swap when I'm done welding the bed seams.

It's all about ohms. I can't remember what the ohms are for old ford gauges,...something like 60 empty, ~25 half full, ~10 full. That's for the old gauge. the newer sender may be 25 full , you see??, I don't know for sure. Your wire may be the wrong AWG,..ie lower or higher resistance. Research it, that's the problem, hopefully. don't hold me to the ohms above, i can't remember. Are you sure the sender is not adjustable?

Talk to me about this tank guys, where's it go, I don't want a tire in my bed??

The tank goes under the bed, behind the rear axle, between the frame rails (where the spare goes).
