My truck was one to receive factory AC in 1969 but was stripped of its compressor and dryer assembly sometime between now and then. I just purchased a compressor, dryer, and box that are supposedly good out of 1970 and am almost through combining the best parts from the in-cab box that was in my truck and the box I bought. I still have the perch for the compressor mounted to my engine but I'm not sure what else I need. I'm also not sure whether to mount the compressor horizontally or vertically. How should I route the belt to power the compressor? What do I need to know about installing AC systems/how do I flush it? I've done pretty much everything else on this truck work-wise but have never tackled anything to do with the AC system. Here's some pictures of the current belt setup (I know the power steering cooler is gonna have to move and the fuel line re-routed).

Re: What else do I need?
Ya need:
Gaskets to stop all the leaks.. Nevermind... it is an FE, it is supposed to leak.
a new fuel line...
A stabilzer bracket for the compressor
Idler pulley for the compressor belt.
a new return line for the PS cooler
Once you have those I think the rest will become evident, but if not send more pics.
hth,
eric

Re: What else do I need?
Not an expert on this but your ac should be powered by your crank pulley and have an idler or tensior pulley to to tighten the belt. If your compressor is a york, it was designed to bolt up and run horizontial or vert. You will need a new dryer, hoses and fittings and i would replace the expansion valve as well, which i think is inside your int box ( mine is a dealer odd-on).
Replace any valve stems at the charging ports and you will need a r-134a retrifit kit. Use ester or pag-100 oil in your compressor. Flush all other components with a/c flush that you can pick up at a local parts store. I would pressure test the condensor and evap core before i put it together. If you have a auto a/c specialty shop nearby they can test your compressor.
Just went through all this on my 302 and didn't have my compressor checked (ie) bearings, seals and clutch assembly. It leaks the freon out in about a week at the front seal of the compressor. You can get those compressors for around $200 new. Iv'e been told by a reliable source don't wast your money on a rebuilt unit.
Anyone jump in if i missed something.
Just a note on the old york compressors- you have to fill it to the proper level with oil before you charge it, look online for info on your set up or find someone who knows these old units it will be very helpful. I learned the hard way.

Re: What else do I need?
you are missing the two idler pulleys for hte a/c heres a pic of my pulley setup. i also have those pulleys if you want them. you can see the two pulleys on either side of the water pump pulley that don't have a belt on them.
