Autolite Carburetor

Post by sideoilerfe »

I recently rebuilt my Autolite carb and i broke this plastic piece that holds the choke plate to the linkage. Any thoughts on finding another one? The tag on the carb says C8TE on it. It is from a 1968 F250 360. I used a zip tie for now but that's kinda ghetto.

Also, having a problem with fuel boiling 5 minutes after shut off and "flooding" itself. Did I forget something? It runs great but if i go to the store and come out 5 minutes later it doesn't like to start easily anymore. It used to fire right up without hitting the throttle, now it cranks about 5-6 seconds. I thought it was float level but i think i've ruled that out. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Not the problem. It never did it before. My other 3 trucks never did that either and they had the same heated spacer.

Sideoilerfe, my heat soak problem turned out to be a timing issue. Mine also didn't start until i rebuilt the carb. Mine's a 302, no cooled spacer plate on mine. Not sure why but these autolite carbs are bad about this. I also set the float in my carb with it running, which turned out to run better with a lower fuel level than the specs say.
No one has been able to explain this heat soak issue. :hmm: When mine was doing it i would pull the carb top and the gas in the carb was not hot nor was the carb hot enough to boil gas. :?

I have the same carb, same issue. I added a phenolic spacer between the carb and heated spacer and that has helped. Still from time to time it'll take a few seconds to crank but now its more like 1 in 10 rather than every time I start the truck hot. The carb is freshly rebuilt so its not malfunctioning. As for the choke piece I would say look for one off a donor carb although I did see someone selling over-priced brass ones on eBay a while back. Right now I have all the linkage bypassed and just have a loop in the end of the cable through the hoop on the choke plate and that works fine.

I'm sure napa might have it, they had the pull-off for my 72 years ago it was considered an engine control component.

Found the "flooding" problem. There is a gasket under the venturi that was in upside down. Flipped it over and runs like a top.
