I don't street drive my pickup toy at all.
I drag race with it.
My drum brakes seem to work fair; but I don't know if I have really good brakes. I have all the parts to put disc brakes from a '77 on.
Will I have more braking power? And do disc brakes drag some; so it will slow me down?

re: Drum Or Disc Brakes
I think in this situation I would go with discs.
One thing that drum brakes can do is get so hot the drum expands, then you have no brakes because the shoes can not raech the drums.
The drag from a disc is negligable.
I would go with discs for the safety factor.

For drag racing disc brakes would be a lot better, and help hold your truck
on the line better, and then on top end you may be able to take the first
return road! Depends how fast your running.

Cut ( FOUR ) pieces of an old ford truck frame that has been junked, fit them to the inside of your good frame, add weld and bolts, the leafs are now inboard, time for the (big WIDE tires)!

re: Drum Or Disc Brakes
I'd go with the disc set up. Far better braking. I had heavy duty power drum brakes on a car They worked pretty good until they got hot and started to fade. Discs brakes tend to fade as well if they got hot enough. There's usually no drag on discs because of the "kick out". You'll be happier with the discs.

Sounds like everyone leans toward disc's.
Being I have the I-beams already not a big deal this winter.
Just to rebuilt everything on the way in.
