You can also use a points distributor to trigger an electronic ignition. I know a guy on Fordsix has done it and it's pretty simple. He just uses the points instead of a hall affect so they really don't carry currant and last forever plus you have the vacuum and mechanical advance. I think he used the TFI module. I'll see if I can find the link.
One thing I always ponder is the small cap. Chevy and Ford both went to the larger cap to get the terminals farther apart because 50,000 volts can jump between the contacts in a small cap. Of course chevy later went back to a small cap so who knows.

That is exactly what I am doing to my '71. The only exception is I am using the large cap/rotor.
