My 72 f100 project( more of the interior )
HI, I'm new here, I just picked up this 1972 f100 ranger xlt. It has a 300 L6 with a 6=8 intake , dual headers, crane cam, and flow master exhaust, it's got plenty of power . It didn't have a carburetor when I got it, so I put a 500 cfm edelbrock 4bbl on it. The ignition was missing too, but I had the ignition and wires from a CJ7 jeep that pluged right up to the solidstate distributor. yes I know the wiring is a bit of a mess under the hood but that was only to get it running, I'll fix it right later. The driver side cab corner has been attempted to be replaced, but it's so botched I think I will just buy a new corner and fix it right. the floor boards will need replacing, it's gonna get now front fenders, and the driver side door will need replacing ( could be fixed but wouldn't be worth it). The bed however , which is from a 69, is in beautiful shape, only a few small rust holes. I removed the bed, doors, hood, and one of the front fenders today. Guess i'll have to make an order to LMC so I can get crackin' on replacing some of the sheet metal. I plan on painting it GRABBER blue with a white top. I'll get some more pictures later.

Re: My 72 f100 project
Cool ride. Thanks for the pics. I like the hopped up inline! I planned to hop up a 240 to a 300 and add the headers and intake like that. I never got it done though. I began on a 302 truck. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: My 72 f100 project
Hi all. I've gotten a little done on the tearing her down. I got the bed, doors, hood, and one front fender off yesterday. Today I removed the other fender, seat, drip rail trim, grill, seat, dash pad, and most of the rest of the interior. I Am going to make an order tomorrow for some pannels so I can get fixin the cab.
the frame appears to be in excelent condition
This is the cab corner the guy I bought it from tried to replace, I think he messed it up more than he fixed it.

Re: My 72 f100 project UPDATE 4-11-09
well, its been about a month ( maybe more) since I have started work on my truck. so far I have gotten the body mounts replaced, floor pans replaced, cab corners replaced, chassis painted with POR-15, engine painted, and repaired some other little things. I went to the auto fair in Charlotte last friday and found a solid tailgate for $100, a reciver hitch from an suv for $20 ( It was a brand new 13,000 lb gvw ,) which I will modify to fit my bump. I had to carry it alone from the back field to the front parking lot , probably about a mile, then proceeded to walk right back to the same spot and carry the tail gate back . but it was well worth it. here are some pictures of my progress.

Re: My 72 f100 project UPDATE 5-30-09
It's been a while since I have posted an update on my progress, been too busy working on it to post. I have gotten a fair bit done. I found a 73 that had disk brakes, so I spent a few days putting those on, I've gotten both floor pans and cab corners replaced, fixed the rocker pannels and floor supports, and done a lot of body filler work. I am totaly against just globbing bondo on anything and everything, so I've been trying to take my time, even though I realy want to get this bad boy done. I decided against grabber blue and went with cobalt blue pearl, I wanted something more eye catching. I was able to shoot the cab today but have not gotten any pictures yet. hopefully I can get the doors , hood and fenders done next week, that is time and weather permitting. I got an awsome deal on as brand new set of vintiques side view morrors, so I have to fill the holes for the tripod mirrors and drill new ones before painting the doors. I'll post some more pictures later. thanks for looking.

Re: My 72 f100 project
I think those are just reversed steel wheels. I had some years ago on a 62 Fairlane. They do look good.DavidJoe wrote:Also like the wide steel wheels w/hub-cap bosses.
I had a buddy who ran a wrecking yard and he said he just removed the center section, flipped it and rewelded it on. He made it sound easy. I never did it myself, he just gave me a pair for my Fairlane.

Re: My 72 f100 project
I'm not sure, but I think they are bronco wheels. they're 8x15, don't think the centers have ever been cut, either way I agree that they look good. I was messing around today with trim rings, and they look even better with narrow trim rings.

Re: My 72 f100 project
well, I got the cab mounted today, had a few spots on the paint that were a little thin that I couldn't see in the garage, so I had to spray a few spots again, but overall I'm pleased with how it came out.

Re: My 72 f100 project
It's Cobalt Blue Pearl, it was a toss-up between this and Azure blue, I'm glad I went with this though. It was starting to get dark when these pictures were taken, so it's hard to see the pearl in the pictures.

Re: My 72 f100 project
I got a few more things done since my last update, got most of the interior in, windows in, front fenders on (put the other on after the pictures were taken) , and got the motor all ready to run. still working on sanding and body work on the hood, hopefuly I'll have that done by next week, then pretty much all that's left is the bed and some other little stuff. here are some pix of my progress.
