smooth bumpers and the td bumper tuck
this thing all started when i wanted to put new bumpers on pearl about a year ago.so i thought it would be nice to keep the ford bumpers on pearl
so i go to the local cromer to price recroming them. it was just a little more to have them recromed.then i thought maybe have them smoothed(no bolts on top)
then that silver total custom truck showed its face on the lowered post with smoothed bumpers, sectioned, and no place for a plate.dang it looks killer.
so after a month of being inside with a new born and cold weather,i finely got my break to get out of the house
after going to the dump, hair cut and normal saturday stuff i had a few hours of day light left.
first was to get the donor truck from the woods
then i had to find all the tools to do the job.when you share the shop with dad,and brother stuff is never where it needs to be
got the rear bumper off and the brackets off.i was going to use a van bumper but it needed to much work to use.it is the top bumper.
in this pic you can see how i cut the donor bumper to get the straight peace to fill the place where the plate goes
this pic you can see where it will go
the last pic shows how i will tuck the bumper, cut two inches off and will slot the holes to get as close to the body as possible
so give some feed back. i started with the rear it is straight unlike the front witch has a curve to it,but i will do the same to the front soon

They make vacuum powered and electric powered plate holders that mount behind the bumpers. You can throw a switch and the plate will flip out front behind the bumper. If you think about it, it is an easy mechanism to build if you wanted to do it yourself. That way, you wouldn't have to show your plates when it is parked (or "cruising cool"), but then when you are running around or just feel the need to have the plates out, hit the switch and bam, the plates swing out form underneith and are sitting in the correct spot.

Cool pearl. That'll be a cool bumper. You are going to weld studs on the back to smooth it right? Oh, and by the way, How's the bed on that parts truck? It don't look too bad from pics. Let me know. Please!

Re: smooth bumpers and the td bumper tuck
I tried buying a bumper like that on e-bay last year but got ripped off.
They showed a picture of a smooth front bumper no licence recess or bolt holes,
i had them reconfirm it before i bid and still got the factory replacement .
So i look forward to see how yours turns out

Re: smooth bumpers and the td bumper tuck
took the bumpers to the rod shop in town and he says this needs to be done by the bumper place.
he showed me that the bumper needs to be on the truck to cut and weld it back.
after looking at this and pondering it a wile it is getting to be more than i thought it was.
glad i didnt cut my bumper yet. will go to the bumper man tomorrow and ask him,not that i am giving up but i dont want to cause my self more issues later on in the project

Re: smooth bumpers and the td bumper tuck
well the roll back is mine so it was done that way for a reason.
and that reason is so that i can work on it in the air and not on my back
