automatic flywheel/ flexplate

on a fe enigne does it matter which transmission you use as to whihc flexplate? in other words are all the fe flexplates for 352 360 and 390 all the same for any ford automatic transmission? such as mx and c6. can either trans be used with any flexplate for these three engines?

Yes, the COM and the C6 use the same flywheel. there are two different ones though. Ford changed the starters and flywheels in 65 so the older flywheels won't work with the newer starters unless you have a custom drive (yes they are available). You can put a newer flywheel in a 64 and older car and the newer starter will bolt right on and work fine. Hawkrod

so would a tooth count be the easiest way to determine which ones a person had and was going to use? i have what i think is a 67 352 a 72 360 a 71 390 and a 70 360. i am hoping that the 67 352 with a contorvesial transmission would be able to be swapped to a 360 or 390 of the newer years of trucks 67-75 or 6 when ever the fe stopped being made..

Yup, the tooth count is the only difference. The fact that it is a 67 means the flywheel is the same as a 65-76 and will fit 352, 360, 390 and 427. BTW brand new ones are about $40. Hawkrod
