cd/radios?

Post by BigRedTruck »

why can't I find a radio/single disc cd play that fits this thing....all i've found are those 10 disc changers and retro 80's tape players know anywhere I could get a normal one that would appear near stockish...metal type finish....not the muliticolor seizure inducing faceplate display type.

Nope,

and you'd have to hack the dash to get in in anyway.

Hide it in the glove box.

There is a overhead console that fits into or onto the headliner. They make a stereo/cd player that firts into perfectly. It was one of the 68 guys...maybe Merlin 68 or 68 f250...not sure but they did post photos on the old forum site under the electical forum... see if you can locate it. It looked real nice.

Grit your teeth, close your eyes and saw off the ears. Slide in a nice MP3 play er and you will live happily ever after with 100 or so songs per CD. To ameliorate the pain a bit, keep the ears and tell yourself that you intend to weld them back on later.

The people I know who have installed a CD player have simply bent the ears back out of the way. That way they can just bend them back to reinstall a factory-style radio.

just noticed that my dad at one time had a ham/cb radio in the truck. the mounting frames for the radio are still there. they run from right below the light knob to right below the wiper knob. can I use this in anyway?

just bend the ears back and slide in a mounting box of the type you use when you go from the larger cd/cassette/am-fm in the newer cars to a slimmer model. you may have to cut down the top of the box giving you a smaller cubbyhole but it will still work well and look nice.

There's a company that advertises in Old Cars Weekly (the paper) (a great publication by the way) that makes stock radios into CD player-radios, they are called Electro-Tech, website: www.turnswitch.com

I used a Volvo radio mounting kit screwed into my dash upsidedown with no mods besides removed ears. I put in a multi color seizure inducing CD player (lol) and it worked nicely. NEed a way to seal up the amped component sets I had in both doors. I need to do something with fiberglass. More to come.

I was just looking at some trucks on ebay and noticed that the 70-72 models had fm radios in them. i overlooked this somehow and was wondering if i could just plug one in...or if the wiring was different. I have one of those belkin antenna things that broadcast on fm...so i would not need a cd player...has anyone done this? thanks
