Oil Filters

I see comments from time to time on oil filters. What is the best brand filter and why. And what's the deal with Fram oil filters. I always thought they were good quality and thought there manufacturer made most of the store brand filters.

FWIW I ALWAYS use either a factory filter for the car or an OEM manufacturer. In a pinch I'll use a Mobil1 filter.

I have always preferred OE oil filters too, I use Motorcraft on my Fords, Mopar on the wife's Jeep and Honda filters in my ATV.

There might be better ones but you can bet there are a lot of crumbier ones.

Am i missing the boat i thought fram was the best???? Remember pay me now or pay me later!!! Has thier quality gone down that much???? fill me in!!!!

I have seen 99$ oil filters from Wal-mart that are better then frams cut open. With frams you are just paying of the name. Also frams are good for leaving the gasket on the block. I have cut open a lot of filters. I use wix and Motorcraft.

I had always used Fram until few weeks ago when I noticed my oil light would come on at an idle speed. Someone on this forum said to use Motorcraft which I did and now no problem.

When you put a new filter on, fill it up with oil. Let it soak in and keep
filling it till you put it on. A little bit of hassle, but it's worth the extra

I do that when I can, like On my hi boy for example. But you can't fill it up if it is mounted sideways like in 2wd trucks with FE's.

Thanks DuckRyder for the link very informitive. All should read this link. I will be removing the fram from my engine and using a napa or wix filter from now own. Common sense should tell you cardboard and hot oil under presure don't mix.

Same thing my grandpa taught me when I was 4, and I do it still on every change to this very day!

Best Filters are Mobil 1, Napa Gold/Wix(Same thing, just like Kap'n said).

Did you guys know that all the NAPA brand lubricants are just rebottled/labeled Valvoline products?

Wix, Baldwin, or Motorcraft filters.

Rotella 15w-40 diesel oil in almost everything I own.



NEVER buy Fram filters!
