Best way to remove head gasket residue? On my old 2.9 I had rebuilt I had just used a fine wire wheel in a drill.

X2. just clean up real good when your done, i wouldnt recommend a wire wheel at all, the wires come off easy, go down in engine, not good.BobbyFord wrote:Roloc bristle discs made by 3M...

Wood chisel flattened and sharpened like a blade for a plane.
Then run a LARGE file across the deck to knock any burrs off.
Clean all bolt holes out real good.

I've used them they work good. Have 4" 3" and 2" a size for every job. still use the crap outta my gasket scrapper thou. Just don't use them on aluminum they can take material from the sealing surface.BobbyFord wrote:If you've ever used Roloc discs, you'll never use anything else. They make different grades, too. They will remove gasket off of an aluminum intake without removing metal. Same with steel.

x2.
just rememeber when your done to wipe everything down with some laquer thinner, solvent...whatever.Don't forget eye protection & some sort of mask. The dust both from the roloc, and the gasket you are removing goes everywhere.
