Fuel pump is a good place to start. My 352 had a pretty serious knock, turned out to be a wore out fuel pump.
You can isolate it pretty easily using the wooden-pole-stethoscope trick.

A rod knock is not just loud, but can be felt through the whole truck and gets considerably harder with RPM.
A rod knock is cyclic with engine RPM. Anything else, valvetrain, fuel pump, etc will be 1/2 engine RPM and will not usually be felt through the trucks frame/body.

I had great luck pulling the pan and just replaceing the mains, 300 is very tough. Han an 81 van, replaced bearing and distributor at 278k and went another 150k of very hard driving with 5 different delivery drivers, van got hit in the side in Arkansas almost went up there to pull the motor but too far and too much trouble.
