I can't swear for sure on a 72, but I imagine they used 70-72 Mustang Buckets. I know on 67 they used 65-66 Mustang, and then caught up on 68-69 using 67-69 Buckets. Not sure what changes were made to the Mustang Buckets, after 67. (vertical pleats vs horizontal). Good Luck.

Yeah I didn't mean that to expect you to find one in a boneyard, and if you did it would be all beat up anyway!

The hard part is the brackets not the seats. You could probably make just about any bucket seat fit. The interface between the body and the seat, ie the brackets is what makes it all happen. They can be fabbed if you have the skills and tools.

I think we've debated this here before, but isn't someone reproducing the brackets?

As long as it looks like a custom speaker box and not a drawer when you're done, it'd be fine. Otherwise you'd have yourself one redneck fabbed speaker box!

If you're looking to do minimal fab, Jeep Cherokee seats work great as long as you remove their brackets, and use your existing Ford brackets. There are only three steps and they're all drilling, no real fabrication involved.

The cool part about it is that if you swap the Jeep seats(eg: Jeep passenger -> Truck driver side), the offset in the Jeep seat's existing rails lines up perfectly with our trucks.

Drill one hole in the Ford bracket
Drill two holes in the cab floor
Drill two holes in some 3/4" bar stock to use as a spacer

Hmmm...I just read my post again and realized that unless you have an accurate picture in your mind of the process, it doesn't make much sense. I'll go run take some pics and be right back in a couple minutes.
Thanks,

Ok...so in pic001, we start out with the bare floor of the cab. You can see the 3/4" depression that the old rails bolt into. You can also see that for where you want the bucket seat to be centered, that depression is no where close to the outside edge of where the seat would be.

So, in pic002, you can see how on the bottom of the Jeep seat, one of the rails is off center. It works out to be just the right amount of off center to put our seat where we want it.

In pic003, you can see the Ford rails. You will have to grind the old front bolt off and drill a hole 1/2" behind it. Sorry, don't have any pics of the finished product. I can take some if you need it though.

After that, the rails will bolt right up to the Jeep seats.

Now, you need to use some 3/4" stock and drill holes in it to space the rail closest to the door as seen in pic004.

So...you're almost there. In pic005, you can see that you will have to drill holes in the floor of the cab for the inner rail. Make sure they're as far back as they can go otherwise you end up trying to drill through the vertical edge of a beam that reinforces the floor of the cab. In this pic, you can also see the bolts I installed in the holes I drilled in the front of the rails to bolt to the seats.

Finally, in pic006, you can see the finished product. I only did one seat in my truck as a proof of concept. Now I'm going to recarpet and then install both seats.

Hope this helps. Cherokee's are a dime a dozen in the wrecking yards. You just need their seats, and TWO sets of seat rails from our trucks. It took me about 45 minutes from the time I started pulling the old seat to when I had the new set installed. It's a really easy deal as the offset of the Cherokee's seats lines you up perfectly on center with the steering wheel.
Thanks,
-Aaron Taylor aka...Mr. Winch :D
